Carry-on Vocal Booth Pro Put To Test During VOAtlanta 2014 By Voice Actor and Vocal Booth Expert

Carry-on Vocal Booth Pro Put To Test During VOAtlanta 2014 By Voice Actor and Vocal Booth Expert

michaelVocalBoothToGo.com presented its soundproofing and acoustic treatment products, such as the Carry-on Vocal Booth Pro, at VOAtltanta 2014, the largest voice-over conference in Southeastern United States held in March. The conference boasted speakers, leaders and presenters in the voice-over industry and included voice-over professionals, trainers, coaches, agents as well as service providers.

As an exhibitor, VocalBoothToGo.com demonstrated many of its products including the Voice Over Start-up Success Kit, Soundproofer Sound Booth SB33, Producer’s Choice sound blankets and the Carry-on Vocal Booth Pro. The portable vocal booth was put to a real-time test by a voice actor and home studio/vocal booth expert during the event.

At the conference, voice actor Michael Johnston, needed to record an urgent job for a client. There wasn’t a designated area or vocal booth set-up for live voice over recording. With the help and recommendation from industry vocal booth guru, George Whittam, the voice actor used the Carry-on Vocal Booth Pro, on display at the VocalBoothToGo exhibit, and a Sennheiser microphone.

Whittam is globally considered a top authority in voice-over recording technology. He is Director and Founder of Technology of VOStudioTech.com, a division of EDGE Studio, and co founder of EWAB podcast — experts in home vocal booths and recording studios.

“We needed something convenient, portable, and quick to setup in a hotel room to reduce echo and noise while recording a vo talent for a last minute job, said Whittam. We found it [the Carry-on Vocal Booth] large enough to easily position the mic and a laptop inside, yet easy to transport and quick to assemble. It will work great for actors without the space to setup a proper booth, given their existing environment is quiet enough. ”

Whittam edited the audio track in the same hotel room where the demo was conducted.

“I am pretty pleased with the results.” commented Whittam when the job was completed. Johnston was also pleased with the results and that he could deliver his professional recording to his client.

The Know-how to Become Successful in the Voice Over Business

The voice over business is very competitive. In fact, there are approximately 5 times the number of people “doing” voice overs than there are actors trying to break into movies.

Even though it may seem simple, it takes time to learn the skills and get established once those skills are mastered. It can also be a fairly expensive business – mostly due to the start-up costs of training and demo production, the cost of building a home studio or purchasing a vocal booth or other types of acoustical treatment, and the on-going costs of marketing and continued training.

Reducing the Noise from Dogs in Kennels and Shelters . . . Using Sound Blankets

Reducing the Noise from Barking Dogs in Kennels and Shelters

It has long been documented that audible sound has profound physiological and psychological effects on all animals and can disturb the healthy equilibrium of the body.

This also means that noise affects pets – especially those who are boarded in animal shelters and kennels that are too noisy from barking dogs. The noise can be a physical stressor, especially on dogs, and can lead to behavioral, physiological, and anatomical responses.

In the article published in American Journal of Veterinary research, “Effects of Kennel Noise on Hearing in Dogs,” the authors found that acoustic analysis of the kennel environments revealed equivalent sound level values ranging between 100 and 108 dB sound pressure level .

The Difference Between Condenser Microphones vs. Dynamic Microphones

If you are serious about your voice over career, it is important to have a working knowledge of the tools available for voice over actors.  For instance, the choice of microphone is crucial for quality audio recording.

However, before you jump into buying a microphone, it helps to do research on how microphones work, the reasons for acoustical treatment, and pretty much anything else that has to do with recording the human voice. You need to remember that the primary purpose of any high-quality recording is to re-create the reality of the moment in the most authentic and believable way possible. The simple fact is that the better the mic, the more authentic and accurate the audio recording will be. In fact, if quality was not a concern, we’d all still be using crystal or carbon microphones!

Vocal Booth on Tracks: An Option for Space-Challenged Voice Talents

By Randye Kaye, Voice Actress

Yahoo! I now have my own recording room and, even better, I can whisk its walls aside whenever I need to.

How? I replaced my wardrobe-screen-from-Goodwill-draped-with-quilts (only 5 feet high) with a floor-to-ceiling Vocal Booth on Tracks from vocalboothtogo.com. And it’s great – exactly as promised.

First of all, let me clarify that in a perfect VO world I’d get a sound-PROOF booth and perhaps someday I will. This is not a WhisperRoom, or StudioBricks booth and is not offered as such.  This booth, however, delivers exactly what it promises. I love it.
