VocalBoothToGo was borne literally by the audio producer's demand for efficient and price conscious products. As technology developed, artists were able to create music and record audio in their home. But even though technology allowed easy recording and editing of the files, the laws of physics did not change and the room acoustics had to be handled properly.

For Lifelong Clients, Apply Lifelong Learning … About VO & Everything!

By Randye Kaye
Voice Actor and Coach

Okay, so you’€™ve already graduated from high school, college, whatever.

But education is a lifelong pursuit, and in the field of voice-over, everything you learn comes in handy.
And it’s not just about the specific basics your VO training has drummed into you: acting, diction, body language, pitch, tone, volume and tempo, etc.

Since over 90% of VO work is in the field of narrations, and since we all want our clients to hire us again, here are 10 things I have found helpful in my 20 years as a VO talent – with many valued clients who have continued to use my voice for new projects.

1. BASIC ENGLISH SKILLS
What? Grammar / Vocabulary / Reading Comprehension.

Why? Let’s face it, you are reading copy and the more you understand, the more your listener will understand.

Sometimes you may clarify the copywriter€™s intent by catching grammar inconsistencies. Likewise, the better your vocabulary, the fewer stumbling blocks you’€™ll have to understanding what you’€™re saying and thereby communicating it (and saying it correctly).

How? When you read, look up the words you don’t know. Help a 5th grader with homework.

Practice reading out loud (fiction, non-fiction), and then look away from the page and see if you understand what you justkaye042_small read.

Why? Let’s face it, you are reading copy – and the more you understand, the more your listener will understand.

2. PHONETICS
What? The science or study of speech, the symbols that represent the sounds.
Why? Helpful for marking correct pronunciations (medical terms, foreign words) in the margins of your copy (doesn’t have to be standard linguistic symbols, just something you will understand!).
How? Study a dictionary, and see which symbols (e.g. a line over a vowel represents the “long” pronunciation – like the “a” in BAY; a curved line is the “short” version, like the “a” in BAT) work for you.

How To Wash Producer’s Choice Sound Blankets

Producer’s Choice sound blankets can be washed, unlike acoustic foam. If you spill coffee or other beverages on the blankets or they just get dusty, you can renew thvb-72-s-stack-1000em by washing them.

Washing the blankets can also help to remove the “new blanket” smell.

Vocal Booth Ventilation Silencer Testing

In this video we report preliminary results of testing Ventilation Sound silencer for our Vocal Booth To Go Mobile Sound Booth. Muffler was made out of Producer’s Choice sound blanket. it is light and flexible and it can be folded away for transportation or storage. When the fan was on, (250 CFM air speed) the noise level inside the booth was increased by about 5 Db, we believe due to the air itself rushing into the booth.
We think that reducing air speed of the fan and increasing opening for the air outlet inside the sound booth will reduce the air velocity and the noise level inside the sound booth. The other option we are going to try is redistributing the air flow, so it does not rush into the vocal booth in just one direction, but flows in separate directions. We expect this to improve the air exchange in the booth and reduce the noise level.
This is a work in progress. Any input is welcome.
